Keys to the Game. Gotham FC vs Courage

Gary Gibson

Gotham FC are looking to build on their season opening win against Portland Thorns when they travel to face North Carolina Courage on March 30th. This is a rematch of last year's NWSL playoffs, and promises to be an exciting clash. Can Gotham FC continue their winning ways on the road, or will the Courage defend their home turf? Here are three keys to the game.

  1. Can Gotham FC Keep the Momentum Going?  After losing in the dying minutes of the Challenge Cup to the San Diego Wave, Gotham FC picked up a win in their season opener away at a very good Portland side. Can they carry that energy into this matchup against a upgraded Courage side? Gotham is unbeaten in 4 road matches.

  2. Injury Watch:  Star players forward Lynn Williams and midfielder Rose Lavelle missed the opening two games and have not returned from injury following their time away with the National team gold cup tournament. Gotham's lineup is already impressive but they could be boosted by the return of Kristen Edmonds, Sinead Farrelly, Lynn Williams, Rose Lavelle, Maitane Lopez.

  3. Styles make fights:  The Courage's possession at all costs plays into Gotham's pressing style as evidenced by Gotham FC having not lost against the Courage in 5 matches (3W, 2D). Newcomer Ashley Sanchez changes things but is that enough to Keep Gotham at bay? This clash of styles makes for a very interesting matchup.
