Gotham FC at the world cup update!

We are doing our best to cover the world cup from a Gotham FC perspective. This week we had Renee Washington on the show to give us her perspective. Renee is the voice of Gotham FC for MSG Networks. You can catch the show wherever podcasts are found. also on YouTube.

Let's get caught up on Gotham players in the first round of the tournament.

USWNT:

Unfortunately 2 of the 3 players Gotham sent to the world cup didn't get any minutes in the 3-0 victory over Vietnam. Kristie Mewis and Lynn Williams were left on the bench. Kelley O'hara subbed on in the 84th minute. However, Kelley was aggressive and involved in those 6 limited minutes. 17 touches and 2 passes in the final third. Kelley always rises to the occasion and hopefully will be a key contributor.

The USWNT returns to action Wednesday night 9pm eastern to take on the Netherlands in a pivotal match to determine who sits at the top of the table.

Brazil:

Bruninha made her world cup debut as a substitute in the 59th minute. She showed off why she is a rising global football star. 80 percent passing, 100 percent tackles completed and ground duels. Her confidence will only grow and she could be one of the stars of the tournament when it's all done.

Brazil has a ginormous game ahead of them against France on Saturday. 6am eastern.

Ireland:

Sinead Farrelly continues her remarkable story. After being away from the game for nearly 7 years, she not only returned to club play but has been a standout with the Ireland National team. She was one of the better players on the entire pitch. 63 minutes. 28 touches. 1 successful dribble. won 88 percent of her ground duels and 57 percent in the air. Ireland faces off next against Canada in a seemingly must win if they hope to get out of the group.

Nigeria:

Ifeoma Onumonu is a talent. She was instrumental in getting the Super Falcons their first point in the group of death! 85 minutes played. 37 touches. Possibly the best chance on target of the match with a blistering shot from outside the box that was low and on target. Forcing a great save from #oncegotham Sheridan. Nigeria looks to be a dark horse to get out of the group and into the knockouts. They face Australia 7/27.
