Crystal Dunn Comes Home! Signs With Gotham FC!

Gary Gibson

Crystal Dunn, a true superstar of the soccer world, has officially signed with Gotham FC! The team announced that they signed the world cup winner to a contract through 2026.

Long gone it seems are the days of players not wanting to sign for this club as NJ/NY has now become a destination club following recent success and change of culture around the organization. Dunn is the latest of high profile signings in recent times that include Ali Krieger, Kelley O’Hara, Kristie Mewis, Esther Gonzalez, among others.

For the first time in club history rumors abound of top players and free agents looking to sign with this club. Top free agents Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, and Tierna Davidson are still heavily linked to the club. Gotham seems to be trying to complete the infinity gauntlet this off-season.

What Dunn brings to Gotham FC:

Her arrival elevates the entire team and puts them in genuine title repeat contention. Gotham FC is fresh off their 1st championship run in the clubs nwsl history. Signing Dunn signals to the league and fans that the team wants to keep that winning mentality going. Crystal has won everywhere she's been. From club to the world cup.

Versatility and tactical flexibility:

Dunn can play anywhere from midfield to forward, offering invaluable options for coach Amoros. The club features many players who can play multiple positions as the tactical setup isn't truly positional and players often end up all having to play in all phases of the game. Players that have wide skill sets such as Midge Purce and Taylor Smith are favored. Crystal fits that mold.

Attacking prowess:

Crystal is in the top percentile for all attacking percentile of all Midfield players. Gotham, although dominant in many phases of the game can lack in the final product and putting the ball in the back of the net. Crystal instantly elevates the attack.

Winning mentality and mentorship:

Crystal is not just a winner but a player who helps develope younger players. Citing her relationship with former teammate on the thorns, Yazmeen Ryan, she looks forward to returning with her and returning to her “Mama Bear” role. Dunn brings experience and hunger for success, inspiring her teammates and fostering a culture of victory.

Crystal is also known for not taking herself too seriously and being a great teammate and locker room presence. Crystal is often seen trying to lighten the mood in training and in pressure situations. Crystal has a big personality and has always been considered a top teammate and leader.

Local star power and fan engagement:

From Long Island NY. Dunn's immense popularity attracts attention and boosts Gotham FC's brand and fan base.

Gotham has yet to capture the imagination of the incredibly competitive New York sports marketplace and has struggled with attendance since moving full-time to Red Bull Arena. New York lives a winner. Crystal adds star power to a team losing superstar Ali Krieger and Kristie Mewis.

Final word:

This signing makes too much sense. A perfect fit in every regard. Gotham FC gets their local superstar to bring more eyes on the team, buts in the seats, and continue their championship aspirations.

I'm so excited. Can't wait to buy my Crystal Dunn Gotham jersey! In addition to being a great mentor for Yazmeen, she is also uniquely qualified to help guide Jenna, as they are both extremely talented attacking mids who were asked to play left back because of team need. I was already expecting big growth for the two of them next season, now I'm even more certain.
