Gotham had added 35 year old attacking midfielder Gaëtane Thiney on loan for the rest of the season. She arrives from Paris FC the same team Viens was playing with dieing the interim. There seems to be a bidding partnership between the two teams.
Gaëtane Thiney is a storied french soccer player who has played for both club and country.
“Thiney is an elite player who has been a standout player for both club and country,” said head coach Freya Coombe. “She combines calmness in possession with an ability to unlock defenses and a great work rate. I am very happy for her to be making her NWSL debut with Gotham FC.”
On paper this looks like a player that's showed to play in Freya's possession based system. Lately Gotham had had a lot of trouble creating chances and scoring goals. The creative attacker is a welcome addition to a dangerous attack that's missing a creative playmaker. Thiney can play any of the front 4 attacking positions.
Will be joining team after Thiney receives her visa.
The rebrand addition of adding NY to the name should attract more high profile and overseas transfers. As Lahue stated during the rebrand conference call. "Everyone wants a piece of the NY market and that includes sponsors and players. It makes it much easier to market the team." Hopefully this is the first of many. Also playing at red bull arena makes this even more an attractive destination.
