Where are Gotham's 2021 draft picks?

Gary Gibson

With the covid delayed end of the college season let's check in on gotham's draft class and see where are they at in the process of signing.

Gotham's top draft pick, ESPN 21 under 21 and 2019 US young player of the year awards winner Brianna Pinto has signed a 2 year deal and was in the most recent 18 against the Reign. Brianna was considered by some pundits the steal of the draft. Brianna is a midfielder with a ton of talent and projected future uswnt regular. Brianna may be called into regular nwsl action sooner than later with international call-ups already beginning.

“She has joined us in training this week and is already showing the quality of her finishing and her competitiveness. She is embracing our style of play and is a fantastic addition to our midfield.” - Freya Coombe HC

In the 3rd round Gotham took Taryn Torres, a midfielder out of the University of Virginia. Taryn has signed to the Gotham FC reserve team Downtown United.

In the 4th round Gotham made 2 picks. Delanie Sheehan was the first of those two. Although there hasn't been any concrete news of her signing she has been posting on Instagram as early as last week hiking with first teamer Sabrina Flores. We expect the announcement of her signing very soon. Whether that's with the first team or reserves we're not sure at this point.

The second of the 4th round picks is Tess Boade of Duke University. Tess is an interesting case. According to the Duke Chronicle Tess was not entered in the draft and was looking to go back to Duke for a fifth year of eligibility to which she was granted.

"I actually didn't know that I was going to be getting drafted. I didn't enter in the draft,” Boade told The Chronicle. “I had been talking to a coach the last month, but the morning of the draft, [I] had a conversation with her, and left it at that I wasn't going to be entering and I didn't want to be drafted…."

She was drafted by Gotham anyway.

“I definitely want to stay for a fifth year at Duke,” Boade said. “I basically am deferring…and then once I finish, I'll just go play for them then.”

One for the future, I guess. Now, Tess is listed on the Gotham FC reserve team roster but I assume she won't actually be with the team for another season. One to keep an eye on.

Updates to come. Thanks for reading.
