This game Sunday at Washington is a huge chance for Gotham to make a run at the top. Gotham sit three points from a log jam of first place teams. However, Gotham has as many as 2 games in hand on those teams above them. One of those teams is the Washington Spirit.
These two teams fought to a 0-0 draw during the challenge cup.
Here's what I'm looking for when Gotham arrives in DC.
More minutes for Gaëtane Thiney. Gaëtane looked the part of a game changer. Her inclusion may be ignition this offense needs to catch fire. Her presence will draw a lot of attention and it will free up Midge and Onumonu to attack freely. A veteran like Gaëtane should have little problem adjusting to Freya's system. Hopefully more than a late game sub.
Possible start for Brianna Pinto? I'm more expecting Kawasumi to be the starting left winger but there's an outside chance Brianna gets a start here. What better way to counter Washington's showcase of young talent then by highlighting your ESPN 21 under 21 player. Brianna has a ton of talent and upside. More of a forward than a winger but she can play anywhere along the front 4 spots.
Lastly, another shut out. Washington has some talented attackers but I fully expect Long, Cudjo to boss the middle and force Rodman and Sanchez into playing from wide spots and away from any quality chances. Even without Freeman, lewandowski (this week's Podcast guest) and Johnson are a tremendous pairing. Player of the month Dydasco should return to the starting lineup. And Dorsey is settling in to the left back role. This defence is as good as it gets. Washington is at a disadvantage. This should be a solid 2-0 victory for Gotham.
