Questions for Gotham FC Roster against the Spirit

Gary Gibson

Gotham Head to Washington DC to take on the Spirit 7:30 Tonight on Paramount plus.

Here are three burning questions for this team if they plan on getting points from this weeks matchup.

If the NWSL website injury report is correct than it's a very welcome sign that both Kristie Mewis and Ifeoma Onumonu are off the list. My first question is how many minutes will these two get. This is still a preseason tournament so I expect both players to start and sub off early or come on as late subs. Expect Gotham to look like a completely different team than the one we saw against the Courage as far as cohesiveness and attacking prowess.

My second questions is how the midfield is going to handle the attacking front of Sanchez, Rodman and Hatch? If Mewis is playing that will allow Cudjoe and Zerboni to sit deeper and cut out the passing lanes. If Mewis is not playing, that will force one or both of Cudjoe or Zerboni to come forward and expose space for Sanchez to roam. Mewis playing and Zerboni/Cudjoe sitting in protecting the backline will allow Dydasco and Dorsey to get forward more often and not worry about cover for the talented Rodman in the attack.

Last question I have is can the team find ways to get the ball to Midge Purce in dangerous areas? The Spirit's week spot will be in the outside back position and will be without center back Emily Sonnet. Midge needs to run at this backline as many times as possible. Can Mewis or Onumonu take the pressure off enough to get Midge back on the score sheet?
